Catamount 25k in Stowe

Image
Yesterday was the Catamount Ultra trail run at the Von Trapp lodge in Stowe, Vermont. It was pouring down rain before the event, enough to give us second thoughts about running. The rain let up right before the 8:30 am start, and we were off. There is an option to do the loop twice to make it a 50 k. The 25 k was all I could handle. The water and mud made it tough. It was an adventure. For the most part, I enjoyed it. The mud was too much, but it adds to the sense of accomplishment when it’s over, and the feeling of "Type 2 fun." I attempted five half marathons and finished three: 1. The Vermont Half Unplugged in Burlington, Vermont on April 11th (1:55:15, personal record [PR]) 2. The Charlotte, North Carolina Race Fest Half Marathon on April 18th (Did not finish, only made it three miles) 3. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Half Marathon on May 3rd (Did not finish, only made it three miles) 4. The Vermont City 2-Person Marathon Relay on May 24th (I did my half in around 2:21) 5. The Vermont Covered Bridges Half Marathon on June 6th (2:02:46) I got my PR in the first race of the season (1:55:15 in Burlington, VT). My previous PR had been from the Delaware Coastal Running Festival on April 13, 2025, 2:01:40 (age 51). I strained my right calf three days after the Vermont Half Unplugged, on April 14, 2026, and could not finish the Charl...
