Richmond Trail Run to Cochran’s

We completed the Richmond trail run yesterday. It ended up being around 28 kilometers (17 miles). I ended up walking the last 7 miles and took 5 hours to finish. My wife Julie finished in around 4:20.

I got a bad blister on my left foot before the first aid station at 7 miles (my Agravic SL's couldn't save me from that - reportedly I should have used "body glide"). Then my right thigh injury started acting up. I could barely make it down the final descent.

It’s a beautiful course and fantastic to have it at Cochran’s ski area. I took my kids skiing there lots of times when they were little (over 10 years ago). Love that place.

We parked at Cochran's, took a shuttle to Huntington, and then ran back through the woods over a couple ridge lines. I was not in good enough shape for the course. I think I’ll be in better shape this time next year to give it another go.

We have three races scheduled: (1) the Moosalamoo trail run on August 1st (14 miles); (2) a Jay, VT trail run on September 6th (11 miles for me, 22 miles for Julie); and (3) the Toronto half marathon on October 18th. And Julie got into the London Marathon in 2027, the first of the 2 days (April 24th).

I think I might not be too bad off from yesterday’s run. I might be running again by next weekend.

Update: Monday, after one full rest day, I'm feeling fine. According to Google's AI overview, following a 17-mile run/hike, I need two full rest days and then I can return to "low impact" training on day 3. At this point, I'm thinking that means a treadmill run tomorrow in Superblast 3! I think I'm getting used to running in those in a way that does protect my legs.

Update: I tried a run on Tuesday, but my legs weren’t ready. I had two more rest days on Wednesday and Thursday, and then I was ok to run again yesterday, Friday. I did 2 miles on the treadmill and followed it up today, Saturday, with another 2-mile treadmill run.
